El Volcancillo Hill

In Morazan, there is a mysterious hill that for generations has attracted several spirits like the Siguanaba, Cipitio, the Cadejo, and many others (figure 1). In this place, the spirits take a break and share their stories with the mortals, but only a few brave people have climbed to the top. This is the one and only El Volcancillo Hill.

On the days when the spirits are available, people can hear uncommon noises like skeleton bones or bottles, but nothing can be seen. Some said that on rare occasions, the spirits "encourage" the mortals to visit them. On that day, the people lose their path, and they meet them by "accident."

These spirits' high influence has made it possible that gold nuggets to appear from time to time. These events create a yearly gold bush because a mysterious plant starts producing the gold in a certain place, and only a chosen family will be able to cut it.

Furthermore, for a while, the same spirits forced the hill to increase its height, and year by year, it was harder to climb it. What’s more, the ambition to find those golden nuggets created internal fights between the local families because their hearts became full of envy and ambition. No one could live in peace.

One day, a new priest came and conjured a spell that minimize the visits from the spirits and prevented the hill to keep growing. It reached a maximum height of 80m until today.

However, after the spell, a new phenomenon started to happen. Several people swear they have seen cattle grazing on its lands. But when they come closer, no animals are there, not even a single sign of their presence, but if they walk back, they can see the cattle grazing again.

This hill is a mysterious place that keeps intriguing every person who is brave enough to visit it.
